Tall Ships 2014 – Visiting Falmouth

January 17, 2014

Our B&B is the perfect base in Falmouth for you to take in the awe inspiring visit of a fleet of 30 Tall Ships who are taking part in an historic race between Falmouth & Royal Greenwich.  It is one of the biggest international sailing events seen in English waters.

The ships will be moored in Falmouth for three days from 28th Aug 14 – 30th Aug 14.  You can walk to Queens Wharf in the docks and actually go onboard to get a sense of what life is like on these massive ships.  For the race, the ships will be crewed by hundreds of trainees aged 16-25 years old – which is going to be a great adventure as it will be the first time at sea for many of them!

The spectacle isn’t just confined to the docks either.  There will be a variety of live music and street entertainment to keep you busy including exhibitions, markets and things to keep the kids busy.  The ships crews will also be taking part in a colourful parade through the town centre.  On the final day there will be a firework display to light up the Falmouth bay.

A beautiful 20 minute coastal walk from our guesthouse…you can walk up to Pendennis Point where you will get fantastic views of the ships as they depart the harbour and head out into Falmouth Bay in an amazing parade of sail to the start line.

The Tall Ships will undoubtedly be accompanied by thousands of local sailing & motor boats to give them a good send off!  The last time I saw the tall ships in Falmouth I was amazed that there were so many boats in the water at one time….even the coastguard helicopter showed up to join in!

It is an experience that you shouldn’t miss, so contact us now and book one of our lovely rooms at The Rathgowry Guesthouse to ensure you don’t miss the Falmouth Tall Ships.
